Animals And Plant Life

Animals Of The Boreal Forest
Unlike the plants, the fauna of the taiga is more diverse. There are species of large and small mammals, lots of insects that act as pollinators and decomposers, birds and few reptiles. (the reptiles have a difficult time regulating their temperature in the weather). There are lots of fish species, including but not limited to blackfish, pike, salmon, species of whitefish, lamprey and trout.

Mostly coniferous trees (Spruce, fir, larch, pine)
Southern part of forest is more deciduous, broad leafed trees.(birch, aspen, willow, oak, maple.elm)

The southern part of the taiga has a closed canopy, while the northern has sparser trees.

Taigas have a low botanical variation. Grasses will grow in any patch of sunlight and moss grows in moist areas

Thing to do in the Spring/Summer months
Spring and summer in Russia can be just as warm as anyplace in Europe and states in the northeast region of the united states. The record high for temperature in Russia is 113.7°F!! Wow that's really hot!!! Here are some activities that can be done during the Summer months.

Fishing and Hunting
If you have the talent or patience of fishing, you can go fish for many different types of fish such as rainbow trout, scallops, and many other kinds of fish. If you catch a big enough fish, you may have dinner for the night!!! Make sure  you don't hunt for endangered animals such as the Siberian Tiger.

While vacationing in Russia, you can hike at the various mountain ranges. You can see a very diverse  range of wildlife such as mountain hare, which are brown in the summer months, and 84 different other kinds of mammals.

Mountain Biking
Do YOU love biking???? Try your skill in the biking trail on the beautiful Belukha Mountain Peak.
*PLEASE BE SAFE AND WEAR PROPER SAFETY GEAR*

What to pack
This a general outfit in which you would most likely be wearing on a camping trip in the boreal forest. I would recommend wearing multiple layers and warm shoes during the fall and winter months.

Weather Overview

If you ever had the chance or the funds to travel over to Russia for a nice outdoorsy trip in the boreal forest, you should know a little about the climate.
Though the boreal forest has a subarctic climate, the best time to go for an outdoor trip is during the month of May. Though May is the warmest time in the boreal forest, expect to see lots of precipitation such as rain, fog, or even snow! A plus side to going during the summer is that there is 20 hours of sunlight each day. That's really sunny!! Though remember if you plan to bring solar powered items on your adventurous trip that the higher in latitude you go, to less sunlight you will receive.

Our Demographic

Are you rugged, outdoorsy, adventurous, tough and unhygienic? The Taigas of Russia is the place to go, although don't bite off more than you can chew. Temperatures can reach below freezing in the winter and potentially dangerous animals patrol the forest. Also, try not to get stuck in a bog.
